Getafe vs Real Sociedad: Prediction, Team News, Lineups

When Real Sociedad resumes their La Liga campaign on the road against Getafe on Sunday night, they will be looking to build on the momentum they gained from their remarkable victory against Manchester United in the Europa League.

On Thursday night, the Basque team, who are now ninth in the standings, earned a 1-0 win against the Red Devils in Europe, while Getafe, who are currently 19th in the table and played their last league game at Valencia, fell by a score of 5-1.

Match Preview: Getafe vs Real Sociedad

It would be very surprising if Getafe were to slip out of Spain’s top flight after just one season away from it since 2004; nonetheless, the capital club has underwhelmed in the previous two La Liga seasons, ending in 15th place both times.

The Deep Blue Ones are now in 19th place in the league after a rough start to the season in which they have only managed to pick up one point from four matches.

After losing their first two games of the 2022–23 season against Atletico Madrid and Getafe by a combined score of six goals, Getafe played Villarreal to a scoreless draw at the end of August.

However, Quique Sanchez Flores’ squad will be coming into this encounter on the heels of a huge setback after giving up five goals against Valencia in their most recent match, and they will face Real Sociedad and Osasuna before the international break.

The two teams’ league meetings last season ended in draws, although Getafe still hasn’t beaten Real Sociedad in La Liga since June of 2020.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad will enter this encounter on the heels of a 1-0 Europa League triumph against Man United on Thursday, thanks to a penalty kick from Brais Mendez.

David Silva’s penalty shot struck Lisandro Martinez in the leg before deflecting off of his arm, but the referee stood by his call, and the Basque club has gotten off to a fantastic start in the next 2022–23 European season.

The team captained by Imanol Alguacil has also gotten off to a good start in La Liga this year, sitting in ninth place after four games and seven points.

After opening the season with a 1-0 win against Cadiz, Real Sociedad was blown out by Barcelona, 4-1, at home in their second game.

The White and Blues won again on August 27 against Elche, and they earned a much-needed point against Atletico Madrid last weekend.

Team News: Getafe vs Real Sociedad

Luis Milla and Omar Alderete are both gone for the season with injuries, while Mauro Arambarri is banned after receiving a red card in Getafe’s lopsided loss to Valencia.

Djene Dakonam, the starting central defender for the home team, will be out with an injury sustained against Los Che, making room for Stefan Mitrovic.

Nemanja Maksimovic and Gaston Alvarez are favorites to replace the starting lineup from the previous game, although Munir El Haddadi is also in the mix.

Mikel Oyarzabal, Martin Merquelanz, and Diego Rico are all still out for Real Sociedad due to injuries, but the Basque club hasn’t announced any additional worries after their match against Man United.

Umar Sadiq, who scored in relief against Atletico, will start in the final third with Mohamed-Ali Cho, while Alexander Sorloth will likely sit on the bench.

Due to Robin Le Normand’s knock against Man United, Aritz Elustondo may start in the center of the defense on Sunday.

  • Possible Opening Day Lineup For Getafe: Soria, Angileri, Mitrovic, Duarte, Iglesias, Portu, Alvarez, Maksimovic, Alena, Mayoral, Unal.
  • Prospective Real Sociedad Starting XI: Remiro, Gorosabel, Zubeldia, Elustondo, Munoz, Mendez, Zubimendi, Merino, D Silva, Cho, Sadiq.

Our Predict: Getafe 1-2 Real Sociedad

Getafe will be the fresher of the two teams, but Real Sociedad will be full of confidence following their win over Man United, and we believe that the visitors will edge out a competitive race to put some other 3 points on the scoreboard. Getafe should be the fresher of the two teams, but Real Sociedad would be full of trust following their win over Man United.
